Richard WF Stokoe
First and foremost I am an artist, sculptor and designer. Born in Zimbabwe I studied Fine Art at The City and Guilds of London Art School before gaining a Diploma in Restoration and Conservation of Objects of Historic Interest, specialising in gilding, wood and stone carving and the restoration of Royal Arms. For many years I worked for the well-known ecclesiastical restoration firm Herbert Reed and also as a self-employed craftsman artist/conservator.
Highlights of my career include:
Designing, carving and decorating the Coat of Arms for the Prime Warden of the Fishmongers Company
Designing, carving and decorating the Agnus Dei for the High Altar, Jacksonville Cathedral Church, Florida USA
Designing, modelling and carving of a thistle leaf ornament in Bath Stone (private commission)
Repainting and gilding of HMS Bulldog figurehead
Gilding and decoration of the Royal Commissioners Barge now exhibited at Somerset House
Working as foreman during the restoration of the private chapel at Kensington Palace supervising and snagging to the architect’s satisfaction.
